PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Nathan A. Miller, President
Welcome to the home of the Riverside County Young Republicans! We are Conservative minded members of the Republican Party from Riverside County between the ages of 18-40. Recently, in our last election cycle we saw a major shift in Washington following the 2008 election of the Obama administration and increasing gains for Democrats in Congress. While Democrats in Washington might assume this to be a vote in favor of their ideology and agenda, nothing could be further from the truth.
Voters overwhelmly went to the polls in protest of what they deemed to be a failure of government. Republicans in Washington promised the fulfillment of the promise of the Constitution, fiscal responsibility, transparency, smaller government and moral leadership. Instead, we experienced an erosion of personal liberty, we witnessed one of the biggest spending bills in United States History at the end of Bush's second term (later to be surpassed by the Obama administration), no end in sight to unnecessary pork barrel spending, exponential growth of government not seen since the time of FDR, and immoral conduct that defies logic.
Republicans were handed a wake up call and Democrats were written a blank check. To the dismay of the voters, they soon realized (particularly for independents) that the platform of accountability and unity that Democrat's promised, really meant a partisan agenda and an arrogance of entitlement. Nothing has changed. Not only have thing gotten worse, they have refused to address responsible regulation of a system that allowed for corruption beyond imagnation and caused this economic crisis in the first place.
Well, some damage has been done. The Obama asministration and a Democrat congress has spent close to 4 Trillion dollars like an irresponsible teenager with daddy's credit card, a fiasco that has entailed attempts to give terrorists a fair trial down the street from the former site of the World Trade Center and congress came within inches of a healthcare bill which would have radically increased government spending destroying the lives of a growing demographic of senior citizens. (Update) This fiscal nightmare has passed and is currently being challenged by 20 States as unconstitutional, we will keep you posted.
All is not lost, the earth shattering election of Scott Brown, a Republican to the U.S. Senate in Massachusettes (home of the original revolution) has stopped Washington Democrats Agenda dead in its tracks. Obama delivered an at times charming State of the Union Address completely lacking substance and as a result had no choice but to face the music before congressional Republicans that had until that moment, routinely been ignored. I predict three casualties of this will be Harry Ried losing his Senate Seat this November and Nancy Pelosi's failed leadership ushering her out of the position of House Speaker. Most importantly, what began on the East Coast with a victory for Brown will end with a West Coast defeat for Senator Barbara Boxer, you can call her Ma'am.
The answer has never been Washington's agenda no matter which ideology it came from, it has always been a matter of managing our resources properly and responsibly. In January of 2010, Massachusettes voters stepped up to the plate. This June and November, California voters will have that same opportunity, so don't just vote for anyone, or just any Republican for that matter. Choose wisely, be aware of the issues and choose the right Republican. Because we know the Democrats will always try to raise your taxes, spend your money and tell you what to do every chance they get, don't give them that chance. See you at the polls!
