Farewell

Nathan Miller, President

_Our nationOI congratulate Nicole Cooper on her election as President of the Riverside County Young Republicans.

It has been an exciting 4 years as President and I can honestly say that I don't recognize the world today as compared to the world that existed when I entered politics.

I am writing this in the aftermath of the horrifying attacks in Boston.  Attacks that occurred on Patriots Day, celebrating what lead to the founding of our nation.

It is not hard to imagine a world completely disconnected from the struggle for liberty that founded our nation.  Given current trends, it seems almost inevitable that public monitoring will be a staple of "civilized society" in the wake of terrorist guerrilla warfare tactics.

I love this country, its natural wonders, its resilient people and its founding ideals that have not only withstood the test of time, but have influenced a world that continues to struggle for freedom.  I have heard it said that when people argue that we haven't lived up to our ideals that they in fact validate our ideals.  I truly believe this.  We of course were the first nation founded on philosophical ideals opposed to despotism, serfdom and totalitarian control. 

Tyranny was not uncommon.  There was no such thing as private property.  Indeed peoples property, livelihood and their very lives were wards of the state, subject to the will of the King/Despot and nobles.  In the wake of the new world, undefined Capitalism embraced the ultimate minority "the individual" and allowed for self reliance, self advancement, self actualization.

Ultimately, All you need is Love.  Eros - the love of a real relationship.  Phileo - the love of respect of brothers and sisters in life.  Agape - Real Love.  The greatest gift. Love that never fails and expresses itself in the form of charity, asking nothing in return.

I appreciate all that have helped guide me and support my service as RCYR President, thank you.  I look forward to Niclole's leadership and hope I can continue to serve as an aide.
